Today, April 26, twenty primary and secondary schools in Penang have been ordered to close for sanitisation for two days due to Covid-19 infection cases, said Penang Education director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad.
He added that the school management would reassess the risk before any decision (either to prolong the closure).
In the meantime, 79 schools in Selangor have also been instructed to close for two days, confirmed by the Selangor Education Department.
This involves eighteen schools in the Petaling Perdana district, nineteen schools in the Hulu Langat district, nine schools in the Gombak district, nine schools in Petaling Utama district, fifteen schools in the Klang district, two schools in the Sepang district, five schools in the Hulu Selangor district and two schools in the Kuala Langat district.
Since 21 April, there have been 53 active clusters from the education sector out of the 90 Covid-19 clusters since January 1, said Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba.
Thirty schools in Johor were reported closed on April 22.
Meanwhile, the Sarawak government has issued a 2-weeks closure for schools and nursery last April 19 for all the red zone areas in Sarawak. It is reported that up to 112 schools in Sarawak have seen infections since the reopening under the instruction of the Ministry of Education.
The public has been pushing the Education Ministry to make a decisive decision in view of the current spike in the Covid-19 cases.
