MBAN Sarawak Partners with SDEC to Empower Local Startups

In an exciting collaboration, the Malaysian Business Angel Network (MBAN) Sarawak Chapter is joining forces with Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation Bhd (SDEC) to drive the growth of the local startup ecosystem. This partnership aims to foster innovation and sustainable development and establish Sarawak as a leading hub for entrepreneurial excellence.

MBAN Sarawak Chapter reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to promoting angel investment, fostering innovation, and nurturing startups in Sarawak. Recently, the organization organized a roundtable talk where its executive committee (exco) members and handpicked guests convened. 

The event focused on addressing key challenges faced by startups and angel investors while exploring initiatives, key performance indicators (KPIs), and fundraising strategies.

The roundtable talk was a valuable platform for sharing insights, experiences, and perspectives on the dynamic landscape of startups and angel investment in Sarawak. The discussions revolved around identifying and tackling challenges encountered by startups and angel investors, devising strategies for fostering growth and innovation, and identifying opportunities to strengthen the local startup ecosystem.

The esteemed attendees at the roundtable talk included prominent figures such as pro tem chairman Dato Patrick Liew, Prof Jugdutt (Jack) Singh, Anne Kung, Hazwan Razak, Ehon Chan, James Graham, David Chew, John Law, Melvin Ong, Melvin Liew, and Amirul Annuar, all of whom are MBAN Sarawak Chapter exco members.

Prof Jack delivered an insightful presentation on the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 and shed light on the current challenges faced by startups in Sarawak's thriving startup scene.

The diverse perspectives and experiences shared during the session provided a comprehensive understanding of the obstacles confronted by startups and angel investors in Sarawak. In addition, innovative solutions, strategies, and policies were presented to overcome these challenges.

The fruitful discussions resulted in actionable plans and recommendations that will further bolster the support system for startups and angel investors in Sarawak. MBAN Sarawak emphasized that these outcomes will guide future activities and initiatives, ensuring continuous success in fostering entrepreneurship and facilitating regional investment. 

Furthermore, the collaboration aims to create valuable partnerships and collaboration opportunities with government agencies, industry players, and other stakeholders.

By teaming up with SDEC, MBAN Sarawak is set to impact the local startup ecosystem, drive growth significantly, and position Sarawak as a leading centre for entrepreneurial excellence.
