All schools in the Covid-19 red zones in Sarawak are to close for two weeks starting tomorrow, said Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, Chief Minister of Sarawak.
"I have decided that schools under red zones are to close for 14 days. This is because we discovered that there had been new outbreaks at schools, and these new infections can result in students transmitting the virus to their parents or vice versa," said Abang Jo.
This comes after pleads from the public urging the ministry to close schools after a sudden surge in the Covid-19 infection. It is reported that up to 112 schools in Sarawak have seen infections since the reopening under the instruction of the Ministry of Education.
The Miri divisional disaster management committee also reported that 13% of its cumulative 3,253 positive Covid-19 cases were of school-going age.
The infection rate of Sarawak Covid-19, R0 is currently at 1.17 on 18 April 2021.
Remember to adhere to the Covid-19 SOP and stay safe, guys.
