Pasir Pandak beach is strategically located in-between Salak River Mouth and Santubong River. It has become a popular beach destination for a family picnic spot or merely overlooking the sandy beach during sunset. This natural beach is 30km from Kuching City Centre amidst the legendary Mount Santubong, Puteri Santubong, Puteri Sejinjang and the mysterious Monkey Island.

Behind the beautiful nature of Pasir Pandak beach, lies a hidden mystery. Some beachgoers are said to be possessed by the resided spirit of the beach, especially during nightfall. According to the villagers at Pasir Pandak, those possessed were believed to have polluted the beach by swearing bad words, committing adultery, leaving behind their trash, or merely urinating on the beach.
Fact or Fiction?
Having an encounter with an evil spirit or being possessed can be a terrifying experience, especially when spirits intend to punish a disobedient person. It can go from mysterious to downright spooky instantly. Spirit possessions, whether you believe it or not, it is entirely up to you.
Many reports that a possessed person may behave against their will or speak in a totally different voice. When they regained consciousness, they usually will not have any recollection of what had just happened.

Spirit possession
This is a true story of a group of friends relaxing at the beach past midnight. Suddenly, one of them was possessed after he urinated at the beach. It is said to be the spirit’s resting area. The victim became hysterical and began screaming with his eyes turned red! Shocked by his bizarre behaviour, his friends quickly grabbed hold of him and tried to calm him down, but they all are overthrown when the victim suddenly performed “silat’ (Malay art of self-defence). They immediately called for help from the village nearby and were lucky to have found Pak S, a villager who has knowledge in spiritual healers and treatment.
However, it is not easy to get the spirit off. He was forced to perform silat to fight against the violence spirit, which lasted almost an hour.
Another villager who witnessed the incident was amazed by how the possessed victim performed silat flawlessly with stunning hands movement just like a skilful master of ‘silat’. Allegedly, the victim was possessed by a great 'hulubalang' (military nobility of the classical Malay kingdoms of Southeast Asia) to Sultan Tengah, the first and only ruler of the Sultanate of Sarawak.
Mysterious disappearance
Another mystery case that happened at Pasir Pandak beach was the missing of a 23-year old nurse of Sarawak General Hospital on 12 December 2015. What was supposed to be a fun outing for Nurul Wazieyna Mohd Yusuf who hails from Johor together with six friends turned tragic when she suddenly fell while strolling along the beach during a high tide. She was hit by huge waves around 6.40 pm. Her friends tried to rescue her, but she vanished from their sight in the blink of an eye and mysteriously disappeared at sea. One of Nurul's friends claimed that she is unsure whether the huge waves or a crocodile dragged Nurul because it’s getting dark when the tragedy happened.

The Mystery Remains
The Search and Rescue teams failed to locate Nurul’s body but recovered her clothes the next day with some holes resembling crocodile bite marks. Pieces of her skull were later discovered at Sungai Dua near Pasir Pandak. What looked like the 'lungs' was discovered between the rocks about 6km away from where Nurul was reported missing. However, there’s no confirmation whether the internal organ was of human or animal.
Nurul’s body was not found despite 13 days of search and rescue mission. Her disappearance remained a mystery and presumed killed by a crocodile. Some netizen noticed something strange about Nurul’s final photo and speculated that her disappearance has to do with some evil spirit.
However adamant of her mysterious disappearance is presumed to drown and nothing more than an accident. As no one can say definitively what actually happened, this will remain a mystery.
