Sophie Soon shared her nasty experience at Subway's Kallang Wave Mall outlet on her Facebook page. She claimed that a Subway employee had denied her entry into the outlet due to her guide dog.
Besides that, the employee refused to talk to her and yelled at her for trying to get him to talk to her instead of her friend. The reason the employee gave was that the outlet is a Halal restaurant and MUIS does not support guide dogs.
"Guide Dogs are the guiding eyes for people who cannot see” and that “Halal regulations do not prohibit the access of Guide Dogs"
Majlis Ugama Islam Singapore (MUIS) issued a restaurant advisory in 2010 stating that they approve the use of guide dogs.
Subway Singapore responded to the incident and offered their deepest apology. They are taking this opportunity to educate their employees both around guide dogs and how they can support customers with disability.
Subway clarified that dogs are indeed allowed in the outlet as part of MUIS' guidelines
