The coronavirus pandemic has stopped most travel from Japan. Tokyo entertainment company First Airlines saw an opportunity and built a unique virtual reality travel market for Japanese holidaymakers grounded by coronavirus restrictions.
Grounded travellers can choose to sit in first or business class in a mock aeroplane cabin. According to the company, the passengers are also given a pre-flight safety demonstration with a life vest and oxygen mask. This is all to give the true feel of flying in a real passenger airline.

Flat-panel screens replacing the convention windows in the cabin enables passengers to view the aircraft’s exterior, passing through clouds, while enjoying their in-flight meals and drinks. Virtual reality (VR) goggles provide passengers captivating tours of various destinations like Paris, New York, Rome, and Hawaii.
“We get some customers who normally travel to Hawaii every year and they can experience some of that here,” its president, Hiroaki Abe, told Reuters.
