Sarawak: Sarawakian Jong Yee Khie Brings Back Silver In Tokyo Paralympics

Kuchingites Jong Yee Khie brings back the silver in the men's under 107-kilogram (kg) powerlifting event in the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics.

Jong Yee Khie, from Batu Kawa, lifted 237kg in his second attempt and won him the silver behind Sodnompiljee Enkhbayar of Mongolia.

Sodnompiljee, also the reigning world champion, won the gold by posting a new Paralympics record of 245kg, breaking the previous Rio's record of 238kg.

The 32-year-old Jong Yee Khie, a two-time Commonwealth Games medallist, has been in solid form this season and had also taken silver at the Dubai World Cup in June with the best effort of 239kg.

Last week, Jong Yee Khie's teammate Bonnie Bunyau Gustin had won gold in the men's Under-72kg class with a new Paralympic record of 228kg.
