The power couple, Bill and Melinda Gates, have announced their divorce after 27 years of marriage, saying, "We no longer believe we can grow together as a couple".
They tweeted that they have decided this after a great deal of thought and a lot of work put into their relationship.
However, both Bill and Melinda Gates will keep working together on their philanthropic efforts in education, gender equality, and healthcare.
They have also committed to giving away the majority of their wealth to good causes.
“Over the last 27 years, we have raised three incredible children and built a foundation that works all over the world to enable all people to lead healthy, productive lives. We continue to share a belief in that mission and continue our work together at the foundation, but we no longer believe we can grow together as a couple in this next phase of our lives. We ask for space and privacy for our family as we begin to navigate this new life.”
The couple met when Melinda joined Bill's Microsoft firm in 1984 and married in 1994.
In 2015 the two began pursuing areas they were interested in. Bill Gates established Breakthrough Energy, an initiative to slow climate change that includes a venture arm.
Melinda Gates created Pivotal Ventures, a company that makes investments to foster equality.
We would like to wish both Bill and Melinda Gates all the best, and may you continue with your great work.
