SPIC Blazing The Pepper Trail Of Sarawak

There’s an excellent chance that you have a bottle of black or white pepper in your kitchen. There’s an equally excellent chance that the pepper is from Sarawak. A classic and much-beloved spice, Sarawak pepper is the extra touch of sass and splendour to elevate any dish.

When it comes to getting Sarawak pepper into your home or restaurant kitchen, Sarawak Produces Industries Company (SPIC) has been leading the pack. As one of the first companies to assert itself into the retail market in East and West Malaysia, SPIC has a lot of history and integrity sitting on their reputation.

The Onset of Sarawak Produces Industries Company (SPIC)

Founded in 1987 based on his father’s keen eye for business, Steven Ting embarked on a career that will form the groundwork for SPIC, making it a household name in Sarawak over 30 years later.

In the 80’s, Sarawak pepper is already a well-known commodity, and the senior Ting Kuok Hua saw an opportunity. Together, father and son created the brand. They began to source pepper from farmers, shipping them out in bulk.

The early 1990s rolled around and the company realised that tourists want to bring home this famed pepper. They produced a line of ceramic pepper shakers in attractive Sarawakian-inspired shapes such as pitcher plants and cats. The home consumer quickly benefited when handy household sizes became available, and of course, bigger businesses such as restaurants and factories have a range of sizes to choose from.

SPIC has begun farming their own pepper, putting them in greater control over the process. This reduces dependence on third party suppliers, fluctuating market prices, and other elements beyond their control.

Everything is inspected for top quality. Only the best berries make it through.

With SPIC monitoring the factory process from start to finish, you can rest assured that only the best pepper berries make it into your kitchen. In fact, they are willing to guarantee this with a return policy if you are not satisfied.

SPIC pioneered their entry into the China and Hong Kong retail markets. They are the first to enter the West Malaysian market. Their products are widely distributed by hypermarkets across the country.

From small tourist shops to retail and hypermarkets, with an online presence on popular shopping sites, SPIC is showing no signs of slowing down. Now they are setting their eye on a new horizon - the US and UK market!
