Sunway Traditional and Complementary Medicine (TCM) Centre by Sunway Healthcare Group (SHG) is expanding its footprint in Borneo States with the opening of a new branch in Canaan Square, Kuching Sarawak.
Two years after its maiden centre commenced services in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, Sunway TCM is officially open for business on 25 January 2022 in Kuching. Strategically located just eight minutes away from the Kuching International Airport, the centre will serve the local population in Sabah and Sarawak and international patients.
Representing a holistic approach to medicine and health, Sunway TCM Centre marries the traditional and cultural practices of the East with the modern, technology-driven approach of the West.
Aside from consultation, herbal treatment, acupuncture, moxibustion, Tuina, and cupping, the new branch in Kuching will also offer specialised services for stroke rehabilitation, fertility, weight management, pre & post-natal care, and post-COVID recovery.
"Similar to our headquarters in Sunway City Kuala Lumpur, this branch is also managed by medical professionals qualified in both western and traditional medicine," said Ms. Hu Kee Yie, TCM Physician and person-in-charge of Sunway TCM Centre Kuching.
With Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) being included in the World Health Organization (WHO) 's Global Medical Compendium for the first time in the recent Fifth World Conference on Integrated Medicine held in the USA, this further elevates the role that TCM plays in the overall improvement of health.
"While TCM is complementary to mainstream medicine, it can meet many health issues, especially with the rising demand for TCM during the COVID-19 pandemic," said Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim Ren Jye, Medical Director of Sunway TCM Centre. He elaborated that Sunway TCM Centre has provided teleconsultation services to approximately 400 COVID-19 patients.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Lim is a trained and certified medical doctor who was subsequently trained in Integrated Medicine in China. He added that the key for TCM's continued development is evidence-based research, which ultimately is to reach the goals of better quality, safety, and efficacy to further contribute to the nation's healthcare.
Sunway TCM Centre's involvement in the country's pandemic management included contribution in drafting Malaysia's Traditional & Complementary Medicine guidelines with respect to the design, conduct, evaluation, and regulation.
Ms. Hu added that Sunway TCM Centre Kuching offers personalised treatment plans. First, by understanding the normal function and disease processes, emphasising on prevention of illnesses, and promoting self-healing ability. Patients can have access to the team of trained and registered TCM physicians situated at Sunway City Kuala Lumpur through teleconsultation.
TCM encompasses many different practices, including Chinese herbal medicine, dietary therapy, acupuncture, moxibustion, tui na (Chinese massage), gua sha, etc.
The opening of Sunway TCM Centre's 2nd branch coincides with another service expansion under Sunway Healthcare Group. Sunway Specialist Centre Kuching, focusing on fertility services, headed by Dr. Edawati Edrus (Consultant Obstetrician, Gynaecologist, and Fertility Specialist), will welcome its first patient in early March 2022.
Both centres will work closely to provide the best integrated medical care to patients, with the aim to enhance pregnancy success rate via TCM integrated treatments into their healthcare procedures, i.e., In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).
The Sunway Healthcare Group's addition of these healthcare facilities in Borneo provides the communities access to quality and holistic healthcare, including tertiary hospitals, ambulatory care clinics, home healthcare, and traditional and complementary medicine.
